Who we are
This privacy policy explains how the Saksi Android app (package com.saksi.app) and the websites getsaksi.com and docs.getsaksi.com handle personal information. It applies from 22 October 2026.
Saksi is published on Google Play by an individual developer under the developer name "Saksi". That developer decides how the information described in this policy is used and is responsible for it (the "controller" under data protection laws). In this policy, "Saksi", "we" and "us" mean that developer. The developer details that Google Play shows are on the Saksi listing in Google Play.
You can contact us about privacy at any time at hello@getsaksi.com.
The short version
- Your notification archive is built and stored on your phone. It is not uploaded to Saksi servers, and we never receive it.
- Saksi has no account and no sign in.
- Content leaves your phone only when you tap Share and choose an app.
- Usage analytics and crash reports are optional. They are off until you turn them on, and they never include your notifications, messages, contacts or files.
- The websites use no analytics, no advertising and no third party scripts.
How Saksi works
Saksi keeps a private history of the notifications your Android phone shows you. The app processes them on your phone.
Saksi is not a messaging app. It can only save what Android makes visible in a notification. It cannot see messages that never appeared as a notification, it cannot open files that another app keeps private, and a notification that disappeared is never proof that someone deleted a message.
Notification access and permissions
Saksi works only after you turn on Notification Access for it in your Android settings. This is a special Android permission that you grant yourself, and you can turn it off at any time in your phone's settings.
With Notification Access, Saksi reads notifications from the apps you allow. Every app is allowed by default, including apps you install later. You can switch off any app in Saksi under Settings, Capture & Apps, App Filter. Switching an app off stops future capture and keeps the history already saved. When you first connect, Saksi also saves the notifications that are still in your notification shade at that moment.
Saksi also asks for permission to show its own notifications. Saksi uses that permission only for its alerts about edits and possible deletions. It is separate from Notification Access, and you can refuse it and still use the archive.
Saksi does not request access to your contacts, SMS, location, microphone, camera, storage, accessibility services or Do Not Disturb settings. Other permissions that Android lists for Saksi, such as internet access, are explained under "Google Play and other software in the app" below.
What Saksi saves on your phone
Depending on what each notification contains, Saksi can save:
- the text the notification shows, including longer messages when Android provides the full text
- the app the notification came from, and the conversation or sender name the notification shows
- times, and the history of changes Saksi noticed, such as an edited message or a message that disappeared from a notification (shown as a possible deletion, which is never certain)
- the last content of each conversation's notification, which Saksi uses to notice changes
- information about attachments, such as a file name or type
- a copy of a photo or file, but only when Android gives Saksi a readable file. Often only the name or type is available, and then Saksi keeps only that
- files you import yourself with Android's file picker. Imported files are not linked to a conversation
- your Saksi alerts inbox, your Saksi settings and your choices in App Filter
- the list of apps on your phone, which App Filter uses to show your apps. This list stays on your phone
If an app or your phone hides notification content, Saksi cannot save the hidden content. If no notification appears at all, for example because the chat is open on screen or muted, there is nothing for Saksi to save.
None of this is sent to us. Notifications often contain information about other people, such as their names and messages. That information stays on your phone like the rest of your archive.
Where your archive is stored, and backups
Your archive is stored on your phone, in Saksi's app storage. Saved photos and files are kept in Saksi's own app folder on your phone's storage, or in the app's internal storage. Depending on your Android version, file manager apps may be able to see that folder.
Anyone who can unlock your phone, and some tools with access to your phone's storage, may be able to see what Saksi saved. Protect your phone with a screen lock.
Saksi turns off Android's cloud backup for its data, so your archive is not copied to a cloud backup. On some phones, depending on the manufacturer and Android version, a direct phone to phone transfer can still copy app data, including Saksi's archive. If you do not want your history copied to another phone, use Delete all data before you transfer.
What leaves your phone
Your archive does not go to us. Your notification archive, message text, sender and conversation names, saved files and alerts are never sent to us, to advertising services or to analytics or crash reporting services.
Only what you choose to share. A receipt, a message or a saved file leaves your phone only when you tap Share and pick an app. Before you share a receipt you can hide the conversation name, the message text or specific words, and you can check the preview. After you share, the app you chose and the people who receive the copy handle it under their own terms. Saksi cannot delete copies you have shared.
Optional usage analytics and crash reports. If you turn them on, Saksi sends limited technical information to Google, as described in the next section.
Google Play. On copies installed from Google Play, Saksi asks Google Play whether an update is available, as described below.
Links you tap. Links in the app, such as the Google Play listing or this policy, open in Google Play or your browser.
Optional usage analytics and crash reports
Saksi has two separate options in Settings, Privacy & Permissions: Share usage analytics and Share crash and diagnostic reports. Both are off when you install the app, and you choose each one on its own. Saksi works fully whether you turn them on or not, and nothing described in this section is sent while they are off. This section applies to versions of the app that include these options.
Share usage analytics. When this is on, Saksi uses Google Analytics for Firebase to send limited usage and technical information:
- events from a fixed list, such as opening the timeline or settings, using search (without your search words), starting or finishing a share and its type, turning Notification Access on or off, a rough count of notifications saved (for example "10 to 49"), the length of your history in days, and the type of an app error. Each event can only carry fixed categories, never free text
- information Google Analytics collects automatically: first open, app sessions and their length, app version, Android version, device model, language, and country or region
- an approximate location, such as a region, that Google derives from your IP address. Saksi itself never reads your location
- a random app instance ID and a Firebase installation ID created for this installation of Saksi
This information is not fully anonymous, because it is linked to those random IDs. It is not linked to your name, phone number, email address or any account. Saksi does not collect the advertising ID, does not set a user ID, and does not use this information for advertising.
Share crash and diagnostic reports. When this is on, Saksi uses Firebase Crashlytics to send a report when the app crashes or hits certain errors. A report contains the type of error, the place in the app's code where it happened, the app version, Android version, device model, the device state at that moment (such as free memory and storage), a random Crashlytics installation ID and a Firebase installation ID, and a few app details: whether Notification Access is on, the app language, the build type and the category of error. Saksi removes error messages before a report is saved or sent, so that no text from your notifications or file names is included.
What is never sent. Notification or message text, previews, sender, recipient or conversation names, phone numbers, email addresses, contacts, message times, file names, photos or files, your search words, and the names of other apps or the list of apps on your phone.
Why, and legal basis. To find and fix crashes and errors, and to understand which features are used, so that Saksi can be improved. The legal basis is your consent, which you give by turning an option on and can withdraw at any time.
Who processes it. Google provides Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics and processes this information on our behalf, as our service provider (processor), under its data processing terms. Google's own information about Firebase is at firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
How long it is kept. Crashlytics keeps crash reports and their identifiers for 90 days. Google Analytics keeps event data linked to the app instance ID for a limited period set in Saksi's Google Analytics settings; reports that combine many users and do not identify you may be kept longer. A Firebase installation ID is kept until it is deleted, and Google then removes the data linked to it within 180 days.
Turning it off. You can turn either option off at any time in Settings, Privacy & Permissions. Turning off usage analytics stops sending. Turning off crash reports deletes reports not yet sent and fully applies the next time Saksi starts.
Deleting data that was already sent. Delete all data on your phone turns both options off, deletes analytics information and crash reports not yet sent, resets the app instance ID, and asks Firebase to delete this installation's Firebase installation ID. It cannot delete information that was already sent; that information is removed on the schedule above. Because this information is not linked to your name or an account, we usually cannot find which data belongs to you. If you want us to try, write to hello@getsaksi.com and we will do what we reasonably can.
Google Play and other software in the app
The app includes the following software from Google:
- Google Play In-App Updates. On copies installed from Google Play, Saksi asks Google Play whether an update is available. This check sends no part of your archive. Copies installed from outside Google Play do not run it. Google Play processes install and update information under Google's own terms and privacy policy.
- Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Installations, used only for the optional usage analytics and crash reports described above. They are inactive until you turn an option on.
- Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) and the User Messaging Platform for consent. These are included but switched off in the current version. They are not started, so they do not request or show ads and collect nothing.
- Google Play Billing. This is included but switched off. The current version offers no purchases.
The advertising ID permission is removed from the app. Because these Google libraries are included, Android lists internet access for Saksi. Internet access is used only for the Google Play update check and, if you turn them on, the optional usage analytics and crash reports. Android may also list a permission that lets the analytics library ask Google Play how the app was installed, which is used only when usage analytics is on.
Test versions given to testers can also create a diagnostic file on the phone when the tester asks for it. It is never uploaded automatically. The Google Play version does not include this feature.
If ads or purchases are switched on later. Ads and paid options are planned and are not available today. Before a version with ads or purchases is released, this policy will be updated to describe what the Google software processes and why. Where the law requires it, Saksi will ask for your consent before ads are requested. Your notification archive will never be part of ads or purchases.
Alerts and your lock screen
Saksi alerts are marked private, so your phone's lock screen settings decide whether their content is shown. You can turn off message previews in alerts, and you can hide Saksi alerts from the lock screen entirely.
How long information is kept
- Your archive. The free archive keeps 7 days of history. Older items, including saved files that no message uses any more, are deleted automatically on your phone, normally about once a day. If your phone restricts Saksi in the background, cleanup can run later. An earlier version of an edited message is kept as long as a newer version of it is kept. Deleted items cannot be restored.
- Shared receipts. When you share a receipt, a temporary copy stays in Saksi's cache on your phone for up to about two days.
- Everything on your phone is erased when you use Delete all data or uninstall Saksi.
- Usage analytics and crash reports, if you turned them on: as described under "How long it is kept" above.
- Website server logs: 14 days.
- Emails you send us: as long as needed to answer you and follow up, then deleted, unless we need to keep them to meet a legal obligation or to establish or defend a legal claim.
Longer history options are planned. If they become available, the app will explain them before you choose one.
Your controls
- Choose apps. Switch capture on or off for each app under Settings, Capture & Apps, App Filter.
- Optional diagnostics. Turn usage analytics and crash reports on or off under Settings, Privacy & Permissions.
- Delete all data. In Saksi, open Settings, then Archive & Storage, then Delete all data. This erases Saksi's archive, saved files, previews and caches, alerts, and settings except your language. It also turns off usage analytics and crash reports as described above. Capture then pauses, so erased data does not fill up again right away. You decide when to resume.
- Turn off access. Turn off Notification Access for Saksi in your Android settings at any time.
- Uninstall. Uninstalling Saksi removes its app data as Android normally does.
Delete all data does not delete messages in other apps or copies you already shared. Because your archive never reaches us, we cannot view, export or delete it for you. You can see, share and delete it yourself in the app.
Other people's information
Your notifications can contain names and messages from other people. Saksi keeps that information only on your phone, and we never receive it. You are responsible for how you use it, including what you share and with whom. Use Saksi only on your own phone and respect the privacy of the people you talk to.
These websites
getsaksi.com and docs.getsaksi.com do not use accounts, analytics, advertising or tracking. The websites load no third party scripts, and fonts are served from these websites.
Cookies and browser storage. The websites use one cookie, NEXT_LOCALE, which remembers your language. If you dismiss or answer the language suggestion, your browser stores that choice in local storage under saksi-lang-suggestion, so the suggestion is not shown again. On docs.getsaksi.com your browser also remembers the light or dark theme you pick. These values stay in your browser, are needed for the features you use, and are not used to track you.
Search in the docs. The docs search index is downloaded to your browser, and searching happens there. Your search terms are not sent to anyone.
Server logs. The server that hosts the websites records basic request information: your IP address, browser user agent, the page requested and the time of the request. We use these logs only to keep the websites secure and working, which is our legitimate interest. They are kept for 14 days and then deleted.
Email. If you write to us, we receive your email address and what you write, and we use them only to answer you.
Who receives information
We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
Information is received only by:
- the apps and people you choose when you share something from Saksi
- Google, as our service provider for the optional usage analytics and crash reports, and Google Play for update checks
- the providers that host our websites and our mailbox, acting on our behalf
- authorities, when the law requires us to disclose information
International transfers
Google may process usage analytics and crash reports in countries other than yours, including the United States. Google relies on recognized safeguards for these transfers, such as the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. Your notification archive is not transferred anywhere, because it stays on your phone.
Security
Saksi is designed so that your archive never leaves your phone unless you share it. On your phone, the archive is protected by Android's separation between apps; Saksi does not add its own encryption, so a screen lock matters. Shared files are passed to the app you pick with a temporary permission. Usage analytics and crash reports are sent to Google over encrypted connections, and the websites are served over HTTPS. Access to server logs and our mailbox is restricted.
No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a security incident affects personal information we hold, we will inform affected users and authorities where the law requires it.
Children
Saksi and these websites are not directed at children. They are not meant for children under 13, or under the minimum age set by the law where they live, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Optional usage analytics and crash reports should only be turned on by users who are old enough to give that consent where they live. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, write to hello@getsaksi.com and we will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, to object to or restrict its use, to receive a copy, and to withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that happened before.
Your notification archive is only on your phone, so you can see, share and delete it directly in the app. You can withdraw consent to usage analytics and crash reports in the app at any time. For any other request about this policy, website server logs or data sent to Google, write to hello@getsaksi.com. We will answer within the time the law requires. We may ask for information to confirm a request, but we never need your notification archive.
You also have the right to complain to the data protection authority where you live, work or think your rights were affected.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes too. If a change is material, for example if a new version of the app handles your information differently or if ads or purchases are switched on, we will update this policy before that version is released and announce the change in the app or on this website before it applies.
Language versions
This policy is written in English. Translations are provided for convenience. If a translation differs from the English text, the English text is the reference, except where the law where you live requires otherwise.
