Frequently asked questions
Plain answers about what Saksi can and cannot do. Still stuck? The docs go step by step.
The basics
What is Saksi?
Saksi is an Android app that keeps a private history of the notifications your phone shows you. You can search it, see what changed, and share a single message as a receipt. Your history stays on your phone.
Can Saksi recover deleted messages?
No. Saksi is not a recovery tool. It keeps a copy of what your notifications showed while it was running. In WhatsApp and Telegram one to one chats, a message that disappears from a notification is labelled as a possible deletion, which is not proof that the sender deleted it.
Does Saksi read my chats?
Only what your notifications show. After you allow Notification Access, Saksi saves the text Android displays in a notification. It cannot open WhatsApp, Telegram or any other app, read messages that never appeared as a notification, or see content an app hides.
Does it work with WhatsApp and Telegram?
Yes, with the notifications WhatsApp and Telegram show on your phone. In WhatsApp and Telegram one to one chats, Saksi can show proven edits and possible deletions. WhatsApp groups use the same handling but have not had their own test run. In Telegram groups and channels, changes are shown as Updated. Saksi is not affiliated with WhatsApp or Telegram.
Which phones does Saksi work on?
Phones with Android 8.0 or later. The current version was tested on an OPPO phone with Android 16. Other brands should work, but battery settings differ. If Saksi stops saving, set its battery use to Unrestricted. There is no iPhone version.
Setup and capture
Why does Saksi need Notification Access?
Notification Access is the Android permission that lets an app read the notifications your phone shows. Saksi needs it to save them. You grant it in Android settings and can turn it off there at any time.
Can Saksi see notifications from before I installed it?
Only the ones still in your notification shade when you turn on Notification Access. Saksi saves those, then everything that arrives after. Notifications you already dismissed cannot be saved.
Why are some messages missing?
Saksi can only save a message that appeared as a notification. If the chat was open on screen, the chat is muted, or the app hides its text, there may be nothing to save. Also check that the app is switched on in App Filter.
Saksi stopped saving notifications. What can I do?
In Saksi, open Settings, Capture & Apps and check Source notifications. Tap Fix setup and make sure Saksi is on in Notification Access. Then set Saksi's battery use to Unrestricted in your phone's settings, and check that the chat app still shows notifications.
Why didn't I get an alert?
Saksi alerts are normal Android notifications, so Do Not Disturb and your notification settings decide whether they pop up or make a sound. Check Settings, Message alerts in Saksi. Every alert is also kept in the Alerts inbox.
Edits and deletions
What does possible deletion mean?
The message is no longer in the notification. This often means it was deleted, but it is not confirmed. Saksi marks a message Deleted only when the messaging app's own notification says so. Today it recognizes this notice from WhatsApp, in English and Indonesian.
How does Saksi know a message was edited?
Only from the notification. When a WhatsApp or Telegram one to one chat notification proves an edit, Saksi marks it Message edited and keeps the earlier version. If a change cannot be proven, it is shown as Updated instead. In some other messaging apps the same badge can appear for an unconfirmed change.
Is a Saksi receipt proof of what someone wrote?
No. A receipt shows what your phone's notification showed. It is not verification by the messaging app.
Photos and files
Can Saksi save photos, videos and voice notes?
Only when the notification gives Android a readable copy. WhatsApp and Telegram often do not, so you will usually see the caption and a file reference instead. You can always import a file yourself in Media. Files over 20 MB are not saved.
Privacy and your data
Where is my history stored?
On your phone. Your notification and chat content is stored locally and is not uploaded to Saksi servers. Saksi has no account, and your archive leaves your phone only when you choose to share something.
Will my history move to a new phone?
No. Saksi has no feature to move history and no cloud backup or sync, and Android cloud backup is turned off for Saksi. On some phones, a direct phone to phone transfer can still copy app data, so use Delete all data first if you do not want your history copied.
How long does Saksi keep my history?
The free archive keeps the last 7 days. Older records and saved files are removed automatically and cannot be brought back. You can erase everything sooner with Delete all data.
How do I delete everything Saksi saved?
Open Settings, Archive & Storage and tap Delete all data, or use the menu on the Timeline. Saksi removes records, saved files and alerts from this phone, then pauses saving until you tap Resume capture. Copies you already shared cannot be recalled.
